MES resource and equipment management

Resources in MES are operational objects: lines, machines, cells, tools, fixtures, people or other capacity needed to execute work.

Resource model

Use a hierarchy and naming scheme that aligns with the plant's real production structure. Resource identifiers should remain stable even if display names change.

Capability and eligibility

MES can use capability rules to ensure an operation is assigned only to resources that are approved for the product/process.

Availability state

Operational states may come from machine interfaces, maintenance systems or operator input. Define which source is authoritative for each type of state.

Tooling and fixtures

Where tooling identity matters to quality or setup, MES can link tools/fixtures to orders and track eligibility or usage references.

MES terminology and boundaries vary among plants and vendors. Validate data ownership, safety impacts, interfaces and change control against your actual manufacturing architecture and approved procedures.
